The central alarm system in our apartment went off tonight around 7:00 that made all the pets (and humans) in our dog-friendly apartment go crazy!
In a hurry to get out the door, I grabbed my boyfriend, my dog, my purse, my laptop, and at the last minute, I had to double-check to make sure I had my digital camera. I knew I enjoyed taking photos, but would never have guessed that it would make my top 5 things to grab seeing as my house may be on fire.
We hung out in our courtyard area with 7 other dogs and dog owners while the alarms went off for another 20 minutes. Finally, the firetrucks arrive, and a few minutes later we're all being ushered back inside. False alarm, apparently.
What are your top 5?

oooh....good question! Top five (not in any hierarchical order):
Box of letters from Andy
Digital camera
Laptop
The Bean (do people count?)
Red stool (my great aunt alma's--a very sentimental possession which always brings me back to being a child, sitting on the stool while she read to me from her matching red chair)
Sarah,
Thanks for the response! I think people and pets are probably a given, so for our purposes here we will not count your loved ones as part of your five.
Loved ones aside, I'd probably grab a box of my old childhood/family photos and probably the drawings my dad has made for me.
Nicki
Okay, so in place of the Bean, I'd have to also say photo albums (the whole big green trunk that I've had since college which is filled with them). And I shouldn't say "albums" but rather photos. They are all in there just WAITING for the day when I put them in albums. But now, maybe that wouldn't be the best, as it's a lot easier to carry a trunk of photos out in a fire than 20+ albums. Nicki, you may have just given me the finest excuse to never put my pictures in order!
I love this question and have a really hard time finding 5 things...is that a bad thing? It is even harder to be original, but here goes!
*Photo Shoebox/Albums
*Digital Camera
*Climbing Gear
*Dad's pic he drew for me
*my 120 dollar rediculous hair straightener! omg.
--ok, the hair straightener has been my vain and guilty pleasure. it is hanging on our closet door and in view as I would be leaving...and I am damn sure I would grab it. Who am I? I have always felt terrible for spending that amount of money...I am going to go donate money to Save the Children right now...I will be right back!
I LOVE your last one, Becki! If you must know, I am jealous of your hair straightener. It was fabulous borrowing it for those few days, but dangerous in that I find myself wanting to buy one. I saw a $12 one at the store the other day, which normally would be my style. Then I saw a $40 one, which I thought would still be spendy for me. Worried that it wouldn't be nearly as good, I'm waiting until I win the lottery and can go for the professional version.
It's been so long since I've been on here. Since people don't count I have a hard time with coming up with 5 right off the top of my head. A few of the 5 things I'd want are HUGE so I don't know that I'd have time to grab them, but my top 3 are my bed, Josi's sleigh crib, and the computer with ALL of Josi's pics since birth we haven't yet backed up on disk. After that I'd grab Josi's envelope of money we haven't yet deposited in her soon to be savings account and then my jewelry box filled with vintage jewelry from my maternal great-grandmother, original hand-mades by none other than Nicki, and any other piece of jewelry that I've liked and kept through the years.
