Got in a fender bender this morning. My fault backing out of a parking space into a sweet girl with a tiny car.
The first thing I said is, "I am an asshole!" Then she gave me a hug. There are some truly kind hearts in this world. I feel like I should make up a gift basket full of presents and give it to her just for being so nice to me.
Needless to say my car has a big green paint streak along the back. Meanwhile, she's got a sweet little dent in her passenger door. It's pretty little, but still- it's a dent and I wish the damage were reversed so I wouldn't spend today feeling like such a shit!

I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm glad you're ok though. Once I had an older kid sort of bump me and when we pulled over I got out of the car and said, "Hey what's up?". Needless to say he didn't know what to say and I felt so bad for him because he looked like he was going to cry. I didn't want to bring attention to this fact, so I just said, "I already have a ton of dents on my car. If you don't mind, there's nothing wrong with your car, why don't you just carry on and try to be more careful?". Well his astonishment in my ease and lack of anger shook him up even more and he started to weep and tell me "what a cool chick I was". I took it as the sweetest comment a 17 year old boy could muster, smiled, and sent him on his way.
If more people would be nice to one another we would find life far less challenging. In these cases, no one was hurt and there wasn't a significant amount of damage, but nonetheless, an accident is an accident.
Glad to hear you're ok.
Ikes never a way you want to start your day... it helps to hit a nice person though...happens to everyone. At least it was a fender bender not a car basher. Might take some rubbing compound but it will probably rub off. If it is anything like the toilet thing you will be checking 19 times everytime you pull out now...never can be too careful. Yeah I hit a pole in Menards parking lot once and it left a scare for years!!! Been there done that hate it but shit happens!!! You've had a good record up until now so hopefully they don't take you to the pokey!!
Kelli,
That is so nice that you were *that person* when that guy hit you. I swear I'll never forget the grace with which this girl reacted. Even when she left me a message, she said, "This is Erika- we met this morning..." Met. Not the person you bumped into or person involved in the accident. Makes me hope that I can be half as composed should someone accidentally bump into me one day.
The world needs more Kellis and Erikas!
Mom-
That is EXACTLY what I told Brandon today. As if I don't have enough complexes. Peepers/kidnappers looking in open windows at night, toilets overflowing, etc. Add another to the list- backing up! :)
