What a week! We got back from our trip to Phoenix late Tuesday night. I picked up Koda at my sister Becki's house. She and Hannah took care of Koda the 5 days we were gone. It was so nice knowing Koda was in good hands and not sitting in some strange kennel with strange people and dogs. Not only are kennels expensive, but some even charge you to take the dogs for a walk. Craziness, I tell you. So she kindly watched Koda and even taught him a few tricks, one of which was, "Koda- don't do drugs." What a sister!
A short work-week, but felt like a long week as I just wasn't ready to be back. Vacation was nice. We saw Tracie and Steve two days in a row, got to see my friend Amy tie the knot with her adorable husband Brandon, then we spent almost 3 days in Phoenix relaxing and wandering. We don't have cable, so getting to watch HBO was a treat. I read my second book in a month. As a kid, my dad would often take us to the library where I'd delight in checking out 20 books at a time, but my obsession with reading seemed to take a hiatus from about 8th grade to age 28. Suddenly I've read two books in a month, with another book in queue, even. It may be all a part of my efforts to chill out lately. I realized that I have been missing out on a lot of things due to my obsession with making jewelry. So I'm fulfilling my commitments, but taking a break from constantly obsessing over things the way I have been for 4 years straight. What this generally means is that in about 2 months I'll be bored to tears and will come back at it with newfound energy. Maybe, or maybe not. I guess time will tell. In the meantime, I've got a date with the book Marley and Me.
Oh- I almost forgot. My car broke down half-way between Denver and Fort Collins yesterday. After a few minutes of freaking out, we finally got in touch with a tow truck. Brandon and I had JUST had a conversation yesterday about what a pain cell phones can be- they're either out of range or the battery dies out right in the middle of spilling your guts to someone which you discover after 4 minutes of straight talking and thinking, "Wow- my mom is a REALLY good listener!" It was the first time I actually had to use a cell phone for an emergency type situation, and I was damn glad that I finally entered into my very first cell phone contract few months ago. Yay cell phones- we LOVE you! In any case, we were on track to get back into town around 4:30 or 5:00, and made it home around 7:00. Just what Brandon wanted to do on his Saturday- spend more time on I-25. I will find out about my car on Monday, hopefully. Hope the damage isn't too great. My car has been really good to me for 6 years, with no major repairs, and I just paid off my loan 2 months ago, so I guess it's time for the old Escort to act up. It was odd- I was in the middle of 3 lanes on I-25, when suddenly pressing the gas just didn't DO anything. No acceleration. A moment of freaking out, then I immediately pulled over. Good times.

As part of my website hosting package for my website, I am able to view my site statistics. Not only can I see how many people have visited my website each day, but I can view things like top 10 referral pages (what websites out there have people clicked FROM to get to my site) and top 10 countries viewing my site (3% of my visitors live in Singapore).
I was checking out the stats today, and noticed under top 10 search engine strings, or the top 10 things people have entered in a search engine to find my site during the month of March. These amused me:
- 1 person searched for katie murra boyfriend and found my site.
- 1 person searched for microphone for saxophone and found my site.
The Katie thing I get, but microphone for saxophone?

I always tell myself that the only way I'll ever win the big Powerball jackpot is if I, well, play- but never manage to buy a darn ticket. The truth is, I hate asking for help and the Powerball set-up at the gas station intimidates me. The little creepy booth with papers and mystery writing utensils and papers strewn about. Meanwhile, I know that it's probably super simple to fill out the little card, yet I don't want to ask anyone- so I never get my shot at millions. (there is indeed a lesson to be learned somewhere in there)
Meanwhile, someone (hope it's brother Steve- how exciting would that be?) has the winning ticket. And here I sit in my Old Navy shirt and holey black pants eating Kellogg's Frosted Flakes for breakfast.
Even though I never play, I already have big plans for my winnings. We probably all do, really. If I won the Powerball, I would launch an art business. First step would be to hire an advertising and PR agency and get really neat print materials and promotional items made. Next, I would buy an acreage. I would host a big creative party-slash-art sale in a big refurbished barn (my art studio) several times a year. Throughout the year I would host art classes and retreats for people wanting to learn more about themselves through the creative process. I would buy a cat and two more Great Pyrenees dogs. I'd buy and RV and travel to art fairs throughout the summertime and take pictures and write books about my adventures.
So one of my favorite types of books to read are goal-setting books, and I have learned that often the thing we say we would do with our lives "if I won a million dollars" is often very telling. A lot of us in our late twenties are still wondering what we are meant to do with our lives. If we look at our big 'lottery dreams,' often they are not impossible things that can only be realized with a million dollars. They're things we can work for little by little, day by day, necklace by necklace.

Girl Scout Cookies are here! Oh, how I love thee, tagalongs. Our sweet little neighborhood Girl Scout was quite the saleswoman, with her short yet eloquent pitch. She even had patience for sweet Koda as he was wanting to leap out the door at her. He loves any human under 3 feet 6 inches tall. I wish he was around kids more, because he gets terribly excited at the sight of youngsters. Not pee on Becki's feet excited, mind you- but excited nonetheless. She pet Koda and something about the way she asked his name in this "I have my own excitable furry slobbering mess of a pet" made me feel okay with the fact that he was trying to tear out of my grasp and topple her over into the nearby snowbank. She made sure to wish me a good day after she dropped off the cookie goodness, and gave Koda one more little pat on the nose with her purple mittens before heading on her way.
