Brandon and I went to First Friday in the Santa Fe Arts District, and while we were there decided to visit our wedding venue. Here's Brandon peeking at the wall on room #1 where our food and liquor will be located.

Here's a picture taken from the upstairs loft-type area. The area below, which we'll call room #2, is where we'll be married. I love the cement floor, exposed duct work, and black rafters. You can't tell, but the ceiling is shiny silver.

Here's the same room, but this photo is taken from below so you get a good shot of the upstairs area. We'll probably have this be a sort of lounge area with drinks... maybe Jell-O shots. After the ceremony, we'll go into room #1 and eat, then we'll return to this room for dancing.

So exciting! And stressful. Talking about the best place to put the food table made me suddenly start to feel a bit claustrophobic! We're not experts, so don't know like a caterer would know where you put the food so the traffic flows well.

♥ the city

We're talking about buying a home in spring 2010, but I am already getting sad about moving away from downtown Denver.

Hi, friends! I haven't blogged much lately, for a few reasons. First, our wedding is so close! Seriously. For a year, I've combed Martha Stewart Weddings and Indie Bride, garnering inspiration. Now it's time to take that inspiration and start working on a few projects.

Next, we've been trying to make our way through puppyhood. I seriously forgot how much time it takes to care for a new puppy. Roxie is turning out to be such a sweet dog, and in spite of things like potty training in an apartment, I'm so glad we have her in our lives.

Finally, school is in full swing. I stopped taking prerequisite courses, and am in full swing learning about some pretty intense stuff. Here's me, the HR lady, in class with mostly males who are already working in the computer industry in various capacities and are going back for their master's degrees. I like to think I bring a unique perspective to things. Even though I sometimes wished I knew what they know, I think it's unique that I'll have so much real-world experience working with people under my belt.

We've decided to name our wedding tables after artists and geeky things, so our wedding guests may be sitting at the Vincent van Gogh table, or perhaps they'll be at the Clark Kent table. Very appropriate.

Procrastination

A new quarter begins tomorrow. I've been on break since November, so it feels kind of painful to be facing this new beginning. My brain is telling me it still wants to be on holiday.

I have a feeling that my blogging will actually increase. Funny how being busier somehow makes me more productive in all areas of life. Either that, or I will just find any excuse to procrastinate... for example, this blog post.

Boot Camp

With our wedding coming up, and with the turn of the new year, I found myself Googling "denver boot camp" on Thursday. When my neighbor asked me to go to boot camp yesterday, it seemed like a great idea. In my world, everything seems like a great idea after a few glasses of wine.

The concept of boot camp has always intrigued me. When we were training for the half-marathon last year, I realized that I really had never pushed myself so hard. When I'm jogging or doing anything physical, I mentally congratulate myself for the fact that I'm in motion, and I don't generally focus on speed or intensity. So I guess for me, I don't really have the inner drive to work out really hard- I need to pretend I can catch up to my sister's running pace, or know that someone is going through the same thing, or hear people cheering me on.

The intensity of boot camp this morning completely took me by surprise.

Of course, we were kind of able to go at our own pace, but all the things we did- even at my own pace- were killer. Killer, I tell you! Everything we did was in sets of 3- we sprinted for 45 seconds, rested for 7 seconds, sprinted for 7 seconds, rested 7 seconds, then sprinted one last set. I usually set my treadmill at home at a 5.5 and run for 30 minutes, and there were people there sprinting at a 9.5. I was afraid I'd a) throw up or b) fall off if I went that fast, so I kept it somewhere in the 7 range.

We did a wide range of exercises throughout my hour at boot camp. I was pretty much dying after about 10 minutes (who am I kidding- I was in rough shape after only about 4 minutes...), felt like I was going to hurl about half-way through, and had to fight my way through the last 10 minutes. I asked someone where the bathroom was- it was that bad.

Not sure if I'll head back to boot camp any time soon, but boot camp did prove to be valuable in that it made me realize that I need to work out more days per week than not. I'm not really one for "new year's resolutions," but the passing of January 1 always makes me feel like I've got a fresh start. It's a good time to build some new habits.

Do you make resolutions in the new year?
